Engines without ruddersare dangerous.

AI coding agents are powerful. But “powerful and unsupervised” means babysitting or praying. Gouvernail replaces both with a quiet decision loop: fire and forget, hear back only when it matters.

The problem with AI agents today

Babysitting

IDE-embedded agents need you watching. 30–60 minutes of attention per task. You're rowing, not steering.

Praying

Fire-and-forget with no guardrails. No decisions, no rollback, no audit trail. Hope it works. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it breaks production.

Gouvernail:per-decision involvement. 2–5 minutes per task, not 30–60. You decide only when something actually needs a human.

The attention equation

IDE Agents

30–60 min

per task, watching a terminal

Fire-and-Forget

0 min

until something breaks

Gouvernail

2–5 min

per task, decisions only

A 5-person team running 10 tasks/day saves ~4 hours daily. That's $80K/year in recovered engineering time.

The sandbox is the safety layer

Not the confirmation dialog. Container isolation is real security. Confirmation dialogs are an attention tax.

cap-drop=ALL

Zero Linux capabilities

Read-only rootfs

Immutable container filesystem

Network isolation

Egress limited to LLM APIs

Why won't engine makers build this?

The Kubernetes analogy: Docker didn't build Kubernetes. Orchestration is structurally different from the thing being orchestrated.

Anthropic won't orchestrate Codex. OpenAI won't route tasks to Claude. Each engine maker is incentivized to keep you on their platform. Cross-provider orchestration is structurally impossible for them.

Engines commoditize. Today Claude is best at X, tomorrow Codex is best at Y. The value is in the orchestration layer that picks the best engine for each task — not in any single engine.

Steer, don't row. Users bring their own agent subscriptions. Gouvernail sells orchestration, safety, and provenance.

Market validation

80%

of organizations hit risky AI agent behaviors (McKinsey, 2025)

65%

of developers use AI coding tools weekly (Stack Overflow, 2025)

Devin pivoted

Away from standalone because developers don't change workflows. Agents must meet developers where they are.
